How To Design Magnetic Banner Ads for the Web

Advertising is a massive industry with a lot of money and agencies vying for attention. But the purpose of this industry is generally to drive people towards something whether it’s a product or service. Great ads will draw your attention even if you don’t have a need for the product.

But poorly-crafted ads will come off as revolting and insincere. Nobody wants to deal with the metaphorical used car salesman, and this type of advertisement can be an immediate turn-off.

For this post I’d like to examine a few design techniques for polishing beautifully-magnetic advertising banners. Although designs can vary from each website the general techniques remain the same. Take a look at the BuySellAds marketplace to see some of the most creatively and well-designed banner ads online today.

Attaining Balance in your Website’s Color Scheme

Designing for astute balance is never an easy task. Although it should be a primary objective in each designer’s mind, balance tends to appear once a composition has reached a state of equilibrium. This requires some idea generation because it’s silly to assume that balance can be achieved from a blank page.

Modern Interface Patterns for Mobile Application Design

There are now more app developers than we have ever seen in the short history of smartphone devices. Google’s newest Android OS coupled with Apple’s advancing technology makes for a force to be reckoned with. Although mobile interfaces can borrow traits from the web, they can’t be perfectly emulated because mobile apps rely on touch-based interactions.

30 Elegant Themes for Ghost

A year ago, finding a blogging platform that focused on blogging was impossible. Even content creation platforms that advertised as having an easy set-up and were specifically for bloggers seemed to focus mostly on the creation of the layout of a blog. For instance, WordPress has some amazing news and magazine themes, but it certainly isn’t a quick set-up. Tumblr themes are a bit simpler but still come with some bells and whistles that many found annoying. Bloggers just wanted to be able to quickly set up a simple but professionally designed blog and start publishing.

John O’Nolan was one such blogger who became frustrated enough with the situation that he hired Hannah Wolfe as lead developer, received funding through Kickstarter, and created a simple blogging platform called Ghost. With so many supporters due to blogging platform ire already, Ghost quickly received the funding it needed to launch on 14 October 2013. The other good news is that there are themes for more than just writers. Portfolio ghost themes are also emerging.

So, if you are a blogger or a designer looking to set up a simple blogging or even portfolio platform, Ghost is one platform that brings content back to the forefront on the web. In fact, below is a list of 30 of our favorite ghost themes so far. All are very elegant and, most importantly, provide a clean layout to help your content shine.
