Hi, great list, I love how you made this fun with your alphabetical listing of them. I am compelled to add my 2 cents on this:
*More fonts on this list are of decent to excellent quality than those that are not.
*I do agree a handful of them (that I wont name because I know from first hand experience what it's like to just begin designing digital type) for lack of a better word, suck.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of free fonts suck and a lot of font designers are more accuratly described as "font makers," as they really have no ambition to advance themselves in their abilities or understaning in digital type design. I have no respect for these types of designers, as a matter of fact I downright dislike them.

Some really great designers however, many of whom designed fonts on this list, make free fonts that are of as good or better quality than your typical $100 font.

And yes, fonts that you purchase for high dollar amounts are usually of good quality, as well they should be.

But don't write off free fonts completely, there are enough diamonds in the rough that a free font could be used in lieu of a commercial font in most cases. If you look.

I have plenty of free fonts on my hardrive that I am oh so stoked their creators were cool enough to make free.

Thanks for this post, I do hope to see more posts by you. A font post is a brave one, as you see people are very opinionated regarding type. Amoungst designer's I'd liken it to talking about politics or religion. Seriously.

Phew! Okay, sorry for the super long comment!

~Lauren
PS: Thanks for including my font HappyPhantom on this list. As always, DesignM.ag rocks

Yeah, they probably aren't great fonts to use without tweaking (I haven't tried yet). I would never use them for body font or anything like that. I think they'll look great for headers, graphics, and such.... when properly adjusted.

However any good designer will manually adjust the kerning of each individual letter to fit in with their page layouts and designs... These are definitely some of the best fonts that you can download for free, most of which you can use commercially. Sure, ones your pay $100's for are better as expected, but for low budget projects and students these are superb! :)
