WordPress themes have evolved a lot in the last years and from simple theme that served only one purpose to multipurpose themes that solve a lot of problems a website owner could have.
In this all too competitive market of WordPress themes, if you are in the position of choosing one theme over another, you are facing a difficult task because there are a lot of possibilities.
However, not all themes are the same. Some offer more features than other, focusing on functionality and style, making sure that the websites customized with them offer the best visual style and user experience to their visitors.
A theme like the ones I’ve been talking about so far is Theme X, a responsive and amazingly customizable WordPress theme.
I think it’s obvious by now that ‘flat’ is not just a new design trend or style that will go away next year. It’s here to stay and I think it’s great.
The idea behind what we call ‘flat design’ is to remove the noise. This means anything that is not necessary to a design. Things like heavy gradients, not-so-subtle drop shadows, 3d graphics, and the heavy use of skeuomorphism, can be replaced with more muted color schemes, solid colors, and a stronger focus on typography – a flat design focusses on the essentials.
In this post we have collected a total of 35 great WordPress themes that sport a flat design style. I hope you enjoy this post, feel free to chime in via the comment section!
One of the amazing things about WordPress is its versatility. It is not just for blogging. It’s not just for portfolios. It’s not just for business/corporate websites. You can find a WordPress theme for almost any type of organization, from bands to restaurants to retail stores. In fact, eCommerce themes are one of the easiest themes to find, beside general purpose themes, and eCommerce layouts come in all shapes and sizes, with many being responsive themes as well.
But creative eCommerce WordPress themes aren’t always easy to find. Many seem to follow a certain format, very often with little visual stimulation…except for the collection below. In the following list, we have compiled some of our favorite well-designed eCommerce WordPress themes for your enjoyment and, perhaps, your benefit if one happens to be perfect for a project. Be sure to click on the Demo links since most of these themes come with more than one layout or extra skins. Have fun browsing!
As new development techniques become commonplace we are witnessing more open source projects being published than ever before. Many of these projects revolve around CMS scripts for webmasters who need a reliable website platform. The most popular CMS products are free and open source, which offers high-quality management capabilities over the website and the page content. But there are so many options to choose from – it can be tough getting started.
I have put together this great collection of 26 very powerful Content Management Systems. You should take a look at these brands to see if anything catches your eye. Developers of Python, ASP.NET, PHP, and Rails should be able to find quality CMS products written in their favorite language. If you know about any other projects we may have forgotten please feel free to share in the post discussion area below.
I’m sure those of you familiar with Wordpress blogs have seen the many author box designs. Most of the popular web design and social media magazines feature some type of author display box towards the bottom of each post. This features the author name, avatar, and generally a short bio along with profile links.
Wordpress users who are up to date with the latest 3.2.x release can easily implement this feature via custom plugins to extend WP functionality. But I want to explain how you can custom-code your own author box! I feel this method gives you more control over the layout and you can manipulate the HTML/CSS much further than with plugin codes.
Comments are an important part to any website community. Within the comments section visitors of your website may share their ideas, thoughts, and related links on topic with your content. It’s revolutionized the web 2.0 era!
Today we take comments as often commonplace wherever we go. Most blogs will include this feature by default. This also includes many of the popular open source projects such as Wordpress, MovableType, Blogger, and others. And although many of these are semi-closed off the most popular systems allow for customizations.
This is where threaded comments have begun. Including threads within the conversations allows for branching topics and more direct responses. Below I’ve gathered a hefty collection of threaded comment designs for your viewing pleasure. Feel free to leave your own comments as well if anything strikes your eye!
