Had problems trying to figure out why page jumps to the top when using return false or preventDefault. Finally figured out that it’s because fadeOut sets the element to display:none, so the space taken up on the page by the element is released, and the browser jumps up if the remaining content below isn’t sufficiently long enough. Using fadeTo instead will give the desired effect without this issue:

$(“ul.display”).fadeTo(“fast”, 0.2, function() {
$(this).fadeTo(“fast”, 1).addClass(“thumb_view”);
});
